BTS's History with Kingsman
Today, Bangtan Scholars launched a link to the Korean translation of “The Ambassadors,” a comic created by Mark Millar. ARMY might remember Mark Millar’s comments from 2019 about his desire to work with BTS, after fans let him know about BTS’s Kingsman-inspired performance. While Bangtan Scholars is of course not the same as working with BTS, we’re definitely excited to help share his work!
BTS’s 2019 performance of “Dionysus” at the KBS Song Festival has been interpreted as drawing inspiration from the Kingsman series, thanks to the members’ styling and the bar backdrop. But that’s not actually the first time BTS has referenced the franchise! Deep in the archives of the @bts_bighit official Twitter, there are multiple tweets from April Fool’s Day in 2015 that have the members parodying the movie concepts. The layout for the account was also changed to accommodate the parody, something BTS used to do often for April Fool's! The Twitter bio referenced a Kingsman quote with “manners maketh man.”
The April Fool’s prank included a series of tweets and images, including selcas and photoshopped parody movie posters. The first tweet set the stage with a logo and declaration of the group’s “transformation” into the “Kingsman agency for the secret service.” Check out the tweets below!
And of course, we can’t forget their powerful “Dionysus” performance, as well as the Today’s Bangtan tweet after the show, confirming the Kingsman inspiration with the quote, “ARMY maketh BTS.” (There’s also a BTS Episode from this festival.)
Bonus: Let’s not forget J-Hope’s “Ego” trailer, which has a similar looking tailor shop to Kingsman as well!
